STATEMENT OF FAITH
This statement of faith does not exhaust the extent of our beliefs. The Bible is our final authority concerning truth, morality, and the proper conduct of mankind. Therefore, it is the sole and final source of our beliefs. For purposes of FCC’s faith, doctrine, practice, policy, and discipline, our elders are the final interpretive authority on the Bible’s meaning and application.
GOD
There is one holy God who eternally exists in three persons – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He is the Creator and sustainer of all things, perfect in wisdom, power, love, and holiness, knowing all things past, present, and future. Before the foundation of the world, God sovereignly purposed to redeem His creation through Jesus Christ.
Genesis 1:1-2; Deuteronomy 6:4; Ephesians 1:9-10; Hebrews 11:3; Revelation 13:8
JESUS
Jesus Christ is God’s one and only Son, born of a virgin, fully divine, and fully human. He is the visible image of the invisible God. He is our Savior and Lord. Jesus, who was without sin, died in our place as a substitutionary sacrifice for our sins, bearing God’s righteous wrath against sin and reconciling to God all who trust in Him. Jesus was bodily resurrected in victory over sin and death. He ascended to the right hand of the Father, where He reigns as King, intercedes as our High Priest and Advocate, and will return in glory to judge the living and the dead and establish the new heavens and new earth.
John 1:1-18, 3:16; Colossians 1:15-20; 1 Corinthians 15:3-8, 20-28; 2 Corinthians 5:18-21; Hebrews 4:14-16
HOLY SPIRIT
The Holy Spirit is fully divine, eternally one with the Father and the Son, and active in the Church and the world. He glorifies Christ by convicting the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment, drawing people to faith through the gospel. The Holy Spirit is received at baptism and dwells in the life of a believer to transform, guide, assure, empower, and produce the fruit of a life devoted to Jesus Christ.
John 14:16-17, 16:8-11; Acts 2:38; Romans 8; 2 Corinthians 3:17-18; Galatians 5:22-25
THE BIBLE
The Bible is our final authority. It is God’s holy Word, inspired and without error. It is living and active, sharper than a double-edged sword.
Matthew 5:17-18; 2 Timothy 3:14-17; Hebrews 4:12; 2 Peter 1:20-21
THE LOCAL CHURCH
The Church of Jesus Christ is called to continually submit to the authority of Scripture. As part of the Restoration Movement, we seek to restore the beliefs and practices of the New Testament church rather than the traditions of men. Therefore, we practice believer's baptism by immersion, share in communion weekly, and strive for the unity of all Christians on the basis of biblical truth.
Acts 2:38, 42-47, 20:7; Ephesians 4:1-6
DISCIPLE MAKING: THE CORE MISSION OF THE CHURCH
The core mission of FCC Miami is making disciples of Jesus Christ, the mission Jesus entrusted to His church. We make disciples by helping people know Jesus, follow Jesus, and lead others to do the same, discipling lost people toward conversion and saved people toward maturity as we become more like Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit. Following the example and commission of Jesus, we labor with His strength to present everyone mature in Christ, sending disciples into their homes, workplaces, schools, neighborhoods, and the nations to live and love like Jesus, proclaim the gospel, and make more disciples.
Matthew 28:18-20; Ephesians 4:11-16; Colossians 1:28-29; 2 Timothy 2:2
HUMANITY
God created humanity, male and female, in His image, giving every person inherent dignity, value, and purpose. Death entered the world through the sin of Adam and Eve, and all people have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. As a result, we are alienated from God and without hope apart from the saving work of Jesus Christ.
Genesis 1:26-27; Genesis 3; Romans 3:23, 5:12-21; Ephesians 2:1-3
SALVATION
Salvation can be found in Christ alone and is offered to all people by grace through faith. Saving faith responds to the gospel through repentance, confession, baptism by immersion, and a life of obedience. Those who are in Christ are forgiven of their sins, adopted into God’s family, and given the hope of eternal life.
Matthew 28:18-20; John 14:6; Acts 2:38; Romans 6:3-4; Galatians 3:26-29; Ephesians 2:4-10; Titus 3:4-7; 1 Peter 3:21-22
MARRIAGE
Jesus taught that God designed marriage to be the lifelong covenant between one man and one woman. Therefore, we believe that God’s design for sexual intimacy is exclusively within the covenant of marriage between one man and one woman, and that all sexual activity outside of this design is sin.
Genesis 1:27, 2:24; Matthew 19:4-6; 1 Corinthians 6:18-20; Ephesians 5:31-32; Hebrews 13:4
REGARDING LEADERSHIP POSITIONS
Those entrusted with leadership in the church should be above reproach and model lives of holiness and faithful obedience to Christ. Therefore, those who are living in unrepentant sin, including sexual sin, will not be appointed to serve as ministers, elders, deacons, teachers, or other leadership positions.
1 Cor 6:9-11; 1 Timothy 3:1-13; Titus 1:5-9
RETURN OF CHRIST
Christ will visibly return to restore creation and judge the living and the dead. At His return, all people will be bodily raised, and Christians who are alive will meet Him in the air: those who belong to Christ will inherit everlasting life, while those who reject Him will face eternal judgment. We eagerly await the day when sin and sorrow will be no more, and God will dwell with His redeemed people in the new creation forever.
Acts 1:11; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; 2 Thessalonians 1:5-12; Revelation 20:11-15, 21:1-5
